Selling Your Car Before You Leave the UAE: A Timeline Counted Back From Your Departure Date

In short: Bilgatti Auto in Dubai sells cars on consignment, and the published expectation is that most cars sell within 2 to 4 weeks. Counted back from your flight, that puts the free valuation roughly six weeks out. The car stays with you the entire time, so you keep driving it until the day it sells.

Leaving the UAE comes with a date attached. The flight is booked, the notice period is running, and the car in the parking bay has to turn into money before you get on the plane. That one constraint changes which selling route makes sense, and it makes the order you do things in matter far more than it normally would.

The useful way to plan it is backwards. Start at your departure date and work back, because every step has a duration attached, and the durations decide whether you still have time for a retail sale or only for a trade price.

What are my options if I am leaving the UAE?

Three, and the choice turns mostly on how much runway is left.

A dealer trade-in ends the matter the day you accept the offer. No listing period, nothing to manage, no uncertainty about whether the car will be gone before you fly. What you pay for that certainty is the gap between a trade price and what a retail buyer would have paid.

A private sale keeps the whole sale price in your hands and puts the whole job there too: the advert, the messages, the viewings, the negotiation and the ownership transfer. It also has a tail on it. In the UAE the seller can be held liable after the car has changed hands, which is an uncomfortable thing to leave behind in a country you no longer live in.

Consignment sits between the two. Bilgatti Auto sells the car on your behalf rather than buying it from you, so it is marketed to a retail buyer while the photography, the advertising, the buyer contact, the viewings and the paperwork stay with the company. You set the minimum price in AED, and the car is not sold below it. Nothing is payable in advance and commission is charged only on a completed sale. That last point is the one that matters most when you are leaving, because it means listing early costs you nothing. Consignment vs trade-in vs private sale compares the three on workload and return.

What does the timeline look like, counted back from the flight?

One published number anchors everything. Most cars sell within 2 to 4 weeks, with popular models going faster and niche models taking longer. The rest is arithmetic around that window.

Read the table with that split in mind. Only the 2 to 4 week window and the 24 hour valuation response are published by Bilgatti Auto. The rest of the left-hand column is planning arithmetic, not company policy and not a promise: room at the front for the valuation and your decision, room at the back in case the sale runs long.

Suggested planning point What happens Who does it
Six weeks out Send the car's details and photographs through the registration form You, once
Within 24 hours of that A free, market-based valuation comes back, with no obligation to go ahead Bilgatti Auto
Once the valuation is back You set the minimum price you will accept, and ask what the commission is You
Once you have set the price Photography, listing, advertising, enquiries and viewings begin Bilgatti Auto
The following 2 to 4 weeks The published window in which most cars sell The market
The day it sells Contract, settlement and ownership transfer Bilgatti Auto
Every day until then You keep the keys and keep driving the car You

If you have eight weeks, start anyway. Waiting costs nothing and neither does listing.

Notice what the table does not contain. There is no guarantee in it. The window describes what most cars do, not what your car will do. What it does give you is the thing a departure date demands: a decision point early enough that both options are still open. Six weeks out you can choose between a retail sale and a trade price. Deep inside the published window, that choice has largely been made for you.

What can pull the timeline out of shape?

Four things, all better raised in the first conversation than the last.

  1. Finance still outstanding on the car. Bilgatti Auto's own answer to departing expats is that timing depends both on your departure date and on whether the car has finance outstanding. If there is a loan on the vehicle, say so in the first message rather than in week three.
  2. A niche car. The window is not uniform. Popular models can go faster than 2 weeks, and niche models can take longer than 4.
  3. A short runway. If you are already inside two weeks, a marketing period with no fixed end is the wrong instrument, and a trade-in is the more sensible answer. How consignment works sets out the process in order so you can judge whether it fits the time you have.
  4. Working hours, yours and theirs. The office at 10 San'a Rd, Ras Al Khor Ind. First is open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 18:00. The form and the WhatsApp button are open at any hour and the published response time is within 24 hours, which is the practical answer if you are arranging all of this around a handover at work.

There is one question the site does not answer, so put it directly to Bilgatti Auto rather than assuming: what happens to the listing if the car has not sold by the day you fly. That depends on your circumstances and on what you agree, and it is a five-minute conversation in week one instead of a problem in week six. The sell your car page covers the model itself, and anything specific to your departure is worth raising through contact.

How do I start?

Send the car's details and photographs through register your car. The form asks for the chassis number, your contact details, a note on any faults or damage, the service history, and what comes with the car, including extra keys, a tow bar, child seats, the original documentation and the service book. Photographs carry the rest: the front, the rear, both sides, the interior from the driver's seat, the dashboard, the mileage display and any damage, up to 10 images at a maximum of 5MB each. Photograph the damage deliberately, because a dent declared now is priced into the estimate rather than discovered at a viewing.

A free valuation comes back within 24 hours and commits you to nothing. If a buyer needs a loan to complete, Bilgatti Auto can help arrange financing through UAE banks, with a response on an application within 24 hours; the financing page has the requirements and a calculator.
