Car finance in Dubai: what the calculator shows, and what the bank actually decides

In short: Bilgatti Auto in Dubai can help arrange car financing through UAE banks. The calculator on its financing page estimates a monthly payment from the car price, the down payment and the loan term — it is a planning tool, not an offer. The rate it shows is an assumption in a worked example; the bank sets the real terms.

Two numbers get mixed up constantly in a car purchase. There is the monthly payment you can work out for yourself in a browser, and there is the monthly payment a bank eventually puts in writing. They are related, and they are not the same thing.

The calculator on the financing page produces the first kind. Knowing exactly what it does — and what it has no way of knowing — is the difference between arriving at an application prepared and arriving at one surprised.

What does the calculator on the financing page actually do?

It takes three numbers and gives back four.

You set the car price, the down payment and the loan term. Out comes the amount you would be borrowing, the interest rate the tool has applied, an estimated monthly payment, and a total cost. Everything is in AED.

The ranges are worth knowing before you start dragging sliders. Car price runs from AED 50,000 to AED 1,000,000. The down payment runs from nothing up to 90 per cent of the price, in steps of AED 5,000, and at least 20 per cent is recommended. The loan term runs from 12 to 84 months in steps of one year — one to seven years, whole years only.

One output catches people out. The total includes your down payment, not only what you repay to the lender. Put AED 30,000 down on a AED 150,000 car over five years and the total shown is that 30,000 plus every instalment after it: the whole cost of getting the car, rather than the cost of the credit on its own.

The biggest limit on the calculator has nothing to do with its slider ranges. The calculator knows only what you have typed into it. It has three fields, and anything that is not one of those three is not in the answer. The tool says as much in the small print under the result: this calculation is for guidance only.

Why is the rate in the calculator not a rate you have been offered?

Because it is fixed. The figure in the interest rate box does not move when you move the sliders, and it does not come from an application, a credit check or a conversation with a lender. It is an assumption, chosen so the worked example produces a number. It is not Bilgatti Auto's rate — Bilgatti Auto does not set rates at all. It can help arrange car financing through UAE banks, and the bank writes the terms.

That is less of a limitation than it sounds, as long as the tool is used for what it is good at. Hold the rate steady and the calculator shows you the shape of the decision very clearly: what a longer term does to your month, what another AED 20,000 in deposit does to the total, whether a particular car is anywhere near plausible before you get attached to it. The level of the answer belongs to the bank. The direction of it is arithmetic, and arithmetic does not need approval.

So treat the output as a comparison between your own scenarios rather than as a quotation. If the rate you are eventually offered sits above the assumption, every figure moves up together and the ranking of the options stays where it was.

How do the down payment and the loan term pull against each other?

They push on two different things you care about, in opposite directions. That is the whole reason the choice is not obvious.

Stretch the term and each instalment falls, because the same debt is divided into more pieces. Interest accrues over more months though, so the total climbs. On a AED 150,000 car with AED 30,000 down, using the calculator's own fixed assumption:

Loan term Estimated monthly payment Total, down payment included
12 months AED 10,213 AED 152,556
36 months AED 3,538 AED 157,368
60 months AED 2,205 AED 162,300
84 months AED 1,635 AED 167,340

Between one year and seven, the monthly payment falls to roughly a sixth while the total rises by about AED 15,000. Neither column deserves to be optimised on its own. A payment that clears comfortably every month is worth something no table shows. So is a total that stops climbing sooner.

The down payment is the friendlier variable, because it moves both columns the same way. Every dirham put in at the start is a dirham not borrowed and not carrying interest. Same car, same five-year term:

Down payment Amount borrowed Estimated monthly payment Total
AED 15,000 (10%) AED 135,000 AED 2,480 AED 163,800
AED 30,000 (20%) AED 120,000 AED 2,205 AED 162,300
AED 45,000 (30%) AED 105,000 AED 1,929 AED 160,740
AED 60,000 (40%) AED 90,000 AED 1,653 AED 159,180

The catch is obvious and worth saying anyway: that money leaves your account today, and a deposit large enough to wipe out your savings is not a saving. The recommended 20 per cent is a sensible place to start testing from, in both directions.

Both tables come from the calculator's fixed assumption rather than from any offer. Change the rate and every payment and total in the cells changes. The pattern does not.

What does the bank decide, and what does Bilgatti Auto do?

Bilgatti Auto can help arrange car financing through UAE banks, with a response on an application within 24 hours and often faster. Information is treated confidentially and in accordance with regulations. What Bilgatti Auto does not do is price the loan.

The published requirements to apply are four: 18 years or older, a stable income, no payment defaults, and UAE residency. Read them as gates rather than terms. Clearing them means an application can proceed — it does not fix the rate, the term or the amount, which the bank determines after looking at your circumstances.

The division is therefore easy to state honestly. The calculator is a planning tool you can use at midnight without speaking to anybody. The offer is a document with your name on it. Nobody, Bilgatti Auto included, can tell you your rate before a bank has read your application; anyone who does is guessing with your money.

Two things follow. Run your scenarios before you apply, so you turn up knowing which term you actually want instead of deciding it at a counter. And when an offer arrives, judge its own monthly payment and its own total against your budget — not against the estimate you generated earlier, which was built on a different assumption.

How do I get started?

Spend two minutes with the sliders on the financing page. It costs nothing and rules options in or out quickly. Then call +971 52 270 8056 or email bilgattiauto@gmail.com to talk through an application. The office at 10 San'a Rd, Ras Al Khor Ind. First is open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 18:00, and everything else is on the contact page.

If financing the next car also means getting out of the current one, the down payment column is where those two decisions meet. A free valuation is a market-based estimate of what your existing car should sell for in Dubai, not a guaranteed price — send its details and photos through register your car and a reply comes within 24 hours, with no cost and no obligation to sell. How consignment selling works in Dubai covers what happens after that, and what a free valuation tells you covers what that number is and is not.
